Yahoo photomail: lets users e-mail 300 photos

Instead of the attachment approach, Yahoo's new service lets users easily embed photos in a mail message.

Arrival of Photo Mail for Yahoo's mail users takes a drag and drop approach to sharing images with friends or family.

Those images can be residing on a computer, the Yahoo Photos picture sharing service, or from results of a Yahoo Image Search.

PhotoMail runs on Windows PCs with the 2000 or XP operating system in place along with IE 5.5.

The Sunnyvale-based portal and search engine company touts the PhotoMail service as allowing for unlimited photos to be stored on its computers. Included with PhotoMail service will be a piece of software called a Quick Select Tool. Company claims the tool will make attaching any type of file to an e-mail easier.

Along with inserting photos into an e-mail message, users will be able to add captions to each photo or adjust the borders as needed. As the service has been integrated with the existing Yahoo Photos service, PhotoMail users will be able to view the full size photos or even order prints online.

With all of these functions enabled within the auspices of the Yahoo portal, the company benefits from keeping users on the site.

That benefit comes from being able to display more ads, a significant revenue generator of Yahoo's business.
